Subscription

Membership of LASA is through annual subscription, renewable in July of each year. Various methods of payment are available, please contact the Secretariat for details. In addition to Individual Membership, LASA also offers Organisational Membership. Organisational Membership provides a straightforward way for larger organisations to sign-up several members of staff, and at a discounted rate. A minimum of five people is required for Organisational Membership; there is no upper limit. Members’ benefits are identical in both schemes. Both membership schemes come with the option of subscription to Laboratory Animals journal at the current rate of £40 per subscription.

DOPS

Workplace-based assessments, such as DOPS (Direct Observation of Procedural/Practical Skills), are used to assess how an individual performs in the authentic working environment and are well validated as an assessment method in healthcare and other settings.

The LASA DOPS resource is undergoing a review and is therefore not available at this time. More information can be found in our “Guiding Principles for Supervision and Assessment of Competence as required under EU and UK legislation” document in the Resources section.

LASA CPD Scheme

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a prerequisite for many professional medical and scientific disciplines but less common for those involved in laboratory animal work.

Revision of Directive 86/609EEC requires that persons “are adequately educated, competent and continuously trained” (Article 23A).

The scheme is available FREE to LASA members. Please contact the Secretariat for more information.
